Sweet Divas

I don't know about you, but shopping sure makes me hungry! Something about trying on tons of outfits sure works up a girl's appetite :) I believe in the motto "Shopping is my Cardio".

When I am shopping in our adorable downtown St Petersburg, I love to stop into my favorite ice cream shop, Sweet Divas. The homemade gelato and chocolates are made with all locally sourced ingredients picked by the owner herself and made fresh every day. The husband and wife team that owns this shop are the most down-to-earth and genuinely nice couple and are very generous in their local community. I love supporting a local business with a good heart!

What I'm Loving Lately: CYNTHIA, Cynthia Rowley

If you're not from the south then you may have never heard of a great department store called Belk. About a year ago Belk began revamping its marketing campaign (and its image) and now advertises that it is the headquarters for "Modern, Southern Style". They carry all of your favorite designers plus some great local southern lines - it's a great place to shop!

Well I was pursuing their website this week and saw tons of fabulous pieces from their CYNTHIA by Cynthia Rowley line and I was hooked! The best part? All these below pieces are on super-sale currently! Here is what I am coveting this week:

A fun, flirty dress for Spring (here)

Stripes + Anchors

Has there ever been any pattern more perfect than a stripe? Don't get me wrong, I love my polka dots, chevrons, and plaid, but nothing speaks to me quite like a classic stripe. I love that this dress has me daydreaming of boat rides and afternoons with my toes dipped in the pool (even though the temps lately had me wishing I was bundled up in flannel)!

To keep with my nautical state-of-mind I added this adorable anchor-patterned scarf from the cutest lil boutique, Mayzie's, in Lakeland, FL - seriously y'all HAVE to check them out if you are in the area! I could spend a fortune in there!

After a fun weekend in Scottsdale I am happy to be back in action with y'all (and catching up on sleep)! I have some fun posts in store coming up... so make sure you are staying tuned!

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Things may be quiet around Girl Meets Bow for a few days because I am on my way to Scottsdale, Arizona for Junior League's Winter Leadership Conference!

I was recently (Tuesday in fact) officially announced as my League's President-Elect-Elect (I will become President-Elect in May)- and I couldn't be more thrilled!!! Winter Leadership Conference is my first chance to start learning all the skills I need to help our league grow into it's exciting next chapter!

What a huge blessing this weekend, and the next two years, are going to be. This journey has been covered in prayer and I know every step is going to be walked in faith- what sweet assurance this is!

I can't wait to share everything I learn with you when I return (and the outfits I wear)!!

For now I am off to AZ! Have a great weekend friends! #jlwl14

Droppin' Anchor

Y'all! Old Navy's new arrivals are driving me bananas- in the best way possible! For a nautical lover like me, I am in heaven, because they have literally covered every piece of clothing in anchors! It's like a dream come true!

Now onto the outfit at hand... as soon as I saw this adorable sweater in the "new arrivals" section I snapped it right up! I have been seeing layering all over the place this season, seems every single blogger is layering a sweater over a button up (and adding a statement necklace of course). Well I just didn't think it was for me- don't get me wrong, it looks ah-dorable on everyone else, but I was afraid with my short new do it wouldn't read quite "girly" enough. Well I was sure wrong- as soon as I gave layering a try I fell head-over-heels in LOVE! What a fun, preppy, classic look! I can't get enough!

Is there a trend out there you are afraid to try? Let me encourage you to give it a try! At worst, its a good laugh (been there, done that), and at best its a new way to wear pieces you love. Take a chance!

I know that Kindles, Nooks, and iPads are all the rage these days for reading, but I am an "old-fashioned" girl when it comes to books- I love 'em bound and in my hand! There is just something about opening a musty book from the library, diving into an enrolling story, and spending your Saturday morning curled up reading cover-to-cover that makes me so very happy!

I spent many an afternoon growing up weaving my way through the shelves of my local library, reading back covers and picking the stories I was going to take home with me. I just love being there! Taking these pictures was like a throwback to my youth and it was so much fun. I think you can tell from my smile that Gentry + Shelves of Books = a happy girl!

Organize Me Monday: A Tote for Every Occasion

Happy MLK day! I'm loving that I got the day off from work- what a nice little break to catch up on life!

As you may have surmised from reading this blog so far, I am a very busy girl and my life is "go go go"- running from early morning bible studies, to work, to Junior League, to social events! With so many to-do's constantly running through my brain I had to find a way to simplify my morning routine. You know how it goes... you are rushing to get out the door and all of a sudden you think of the 10 things you need for your meetings after work- and then you have to run around like a headless chicken trying to grab them all and hope you don't forget anything!

After a few stressful mornings I knew there had to be a better way- and that's when I developed my "tote bag" system! It's a pretty simple concept; I have a tote bag for each of my commitments filled with everything I need and in the mornings I can just grab the bag and know that everything I need is in there.

The pictures detailed below are for my "blogging bag" - My necessities in it are:
     - My MacBook
     - My planner
     - An idea notebook (to jot down post ideas)
     - Pens, pencils, and highlighters
     - File Folders
     - General office supplies (post-its, tab dividers)
     - My blogging binder

Since it is all packed up, I can just grab and go when I am ready to hit my local Starbucks for a skinny peppermint mocha and an afternoon of blogging :)

The Liebster Award!

Liebster (German): sweetheart, beloved person, darling

The Liebster award is given by fellow bloggers to new blogs with smaller followings but huge potential; it is a great way to find new blogs as well as support one another.

I can't believe that I was nominated for this award by the super-sweet Lexi of Streets of Gold- thank you so much for thinking of me (and reading Girl Meets Bow)!

The rules of the Liebster award are as follows:
1. Mention the person who nominated you with a link to their blog
2. Answer the eleven questions they asked
3. Nominate eleven other bloggers with a smaller following but a lot of potential
4. Create eleven of your own questions for them to answer
5. Notify your nominees

Here are my answers to Lexi's questions:
1. If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
Without a doubt, I am planning a "bucket list" trip to Italy at some point in my life. I studied Art History in high school and college and I just fell in love with the culture and history of the country. My dream is to travel all around Italy for several weeks exploring every last inch of it- taking it all in (and eating lots of pasta and pizza). I can't wait until that trip comes!

2. What's your favorite season and why?
I just adore Spring! There is something about the bloom of new flowers, the sunshine that always seems to be in the sky, and the bright colors that fill up my view- these things just make me so very, very happy! I adore wearing color (no matter what time of year) but spring is just the perfect time to fill your closet with all those fun, bright pieces that will fill up your every day with sparkle!

3. Flats or heels?
Flats all the way! I'm always running around and juggling a lot of different commitments, and it's a lot easier for me to take on all those tasks when I am in a fabulous pair of flats!

4. Favorite food?
Ohhhh, that is a tough one! I have a total sweet tooth- cake, cupcakes, cake pops- I could devour them all! I can smell something sweet a mile away- and love to take afternoon cookie breaks!

5. Coffee or tea?
Coffee, coffee, coffee- oh did I mention coffee?? I can't start my day with out it! In fact, most mornings I have two cups, one right when I wake up and do my bible study and then another when I am headed to the office. I joke that I drink so much coffee that it no longer makes me perky, it now just makes me "normal" (although I think most people would still describe me as pretty perky)! :)

6. What's in your handbag?
I think the better question might be, "what's not in my handbag?" I always win the bridal shower game of who has the most random things in the purse- 'cause just about everything is in mine. Strangest thing that is in my purse though... static-cling spray! I picked up a can when I was living in Kansas and it was so dry in the winter, but now I always have one in case the fabric of my dress is causing me to have a fashion emergency. It's come in handy in many a situation!

7. Most embarrassing moment?
I hate to be a disappointment but I just don't get embarrassed very easily! I am such an open-book person that I tend to just take life (and potential embarrassing moments) in stride.

8. Do you have any pets?
I have the sweetest, snuggliest pup in the world! He is a German Shorthair Pointer/Hound mix named Buddy and he just turned 6 years old this month! I can't imagine not coming home to his wet kisses and warm snuggles- he is just the best lil thing ever!

9. Fly or road trip?
Fly. I'm the absolute worst road-tip companion; without fail I fall asleep in the car after about 15 minutes- wheels on the road are like a lullaby to me and I can't keep my eyes open! I'd rather have a quick flight than fall asleep on a driver- plus then you get to your destination faster and get to start having fun sooner!

10. Favorite color?
PINK! I don't think there is a single shade of pink that I don't adore. It's bright, fun, cheery and looks fab with every other color! Think pink ladies! :)

11. One thing we probably don't know about you?
Totally embarrassing to admit... but I am terrified of down escalators (not the ones going up, just down)! I ended up straddling one when I was younger and ever since then I can't get on one without about 15 tries!

My nominees are:

My questions are:
1. What is your dream job (if money were no object)?
2. What is your favorite book?
3. Beach or mountains?
4. How do you spend a perfect Saturday?
5. Favorite stores to shop?
6. Favorite item of clothing you bought last year?
7. What's your go-to coffee order?
8. Perfect "cocktails with the girls" outfit?
9. What TV show makes you laugh out loud?
10. Any pets (or pets you want)?
11. What is one fun fact about you?

Thanks again to Lexi for nominating me for this fun award- blogging has been such a blast and I can't wait to see where the blog goes this year!

PS- HAPPY BIRTHDAY week to my favorite lil man in the universe! You make being your mamma so much fun and bring joy to every day! I love you my lil boo bear!

Event Recap: Inaugural Mayoral Ball

Last Friday our Junior League threw the Inaugural Mayoral Ball, "Home -- There's No Place Like St Petersburg" for our city's new mayor, Rick Kriseman.  This was such a fun-filled evening spent celebrating the beautiful city in which we call 'home'! We went with a Wizard of Oz theme for the evening, and all our favorite characters made appearances- no one wanted to miss this party!

As always, I am proud and honored to be a part of such an amazing organization and to have blossoming friendships with such wonderful women. In the two years since I have moved here the Junior League has definitely made me feel that I have found my home.

I hope you enjoy some of my personal pictures from the evening- it was fun to capture these moments!

The Cowardly Lion and Tin Man loved having a photo opp!

Keep it Simple

Like most women, I have a tendency to over-complicate things. I often overanalyze and over think the simplest things- when in reality I should just follow my gut. This over-thinking often extends to my getting-dressed routine in the morning. I try so hard to make the "perfect" outfit everyday, and often miss the simple (and truly perfect) answer hanging right in front of me!

Well when this outfit came to mind it was like a lightbulb came on! I didn't have to over-think this look, it just came natural, and it's one of my favorite looks to date! Simple, classic, timeless- ohhhh, I just adore it!

Don't forget friends, that although life gets complicated, sometimes it's best to just K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Silly) and keep on going!

A Favorite: Pink + Navy

I know I'm not the only girl out there who has those days when I don't know what to wear. For someone who is constantly thinking about clothes, there are still times when I can't put two pieces together! So what do you do when your closet it stumping you? For me, I go to my favorites- whether it is a favorite piece, or in today's case, a favorite color combination!

I love, love, love, pink and navy together. There is something about the two colors that is so nautical, preppy, and classic (three looks I love). Whenever I am standing in front of my closet and struggling with outfit ideas I go to this color-combination and without a doubt I am always able to pull out a fun look!

What do you do when you are asking the eternal questions... What should I wear?

Organize Me Monday: Organizing Your Desk with guest-poster Tide and Bloom

When I say that I have the most talented group of girlfriends it is not an exaggeration- I seriously cannot get over the skill level of the lovely ladies I call my friends! One of my outrageously talented girlfriends also happens to have the loveliest little blog, Tide and Bloom, and daily I am inspired to add a little more "pretty" into my life after reading Christina's blog. This amazing lady also happens to have a heart of gold and a stunning artistic talent (I still have one of her paintings that she gave to me in college- and I love it)! What I am so excited about is that today YOU are going to get to meet Christina, since she is guest posting for me! Christina's flair for design led me to ask her for tips on a beautifully organized desk- since she has a perfect eye. Read on to learn all her fabulous tips...

Party Perfect

Just because the holidays are over doesn't mean the parties have ended! Now that January is upon us it seems my social calendar is continuing to burst at the seams with birthday parties, engagement celebrations, and bridal showers. But what does one wear when it's still winter outside but the holidays are over?! My answer is bows + tulle of course!

Thanks to my stylish mamma, this adorable bow blouse is now a part of my closet and the perfect party shirt! Nothing says "celebrate" like bows, bows, bows! Tucking it into tulle, and belting it with yet another bow made me literally put on my dancin' shoes :) I am ready for cocktails with my girlfriends and the after-party night out. What is your party perfect outfit?

Feeling Nauti(cal)

I have long become known in my group of girlfriends as a "Nauti Girl". Now before you think any crazy thoughts... it's because I love all things nautical! :) Seahorses, lobsters, crabs, and of course the classic anchor make my heart go all aflutter!

As soon as this anchor sweater went live on J.Crew Factory I knew I would have to add it to my ever-growing collection of nautical motif clothing! Since I bought the sweater this fall, I wanted to find a way to wear it in the colder weather. Pairing it with a skirt, tights, and boots keeps it preppy but still keeps me warm in the Florida chill.

PS- If you can't tell... I am a bookworm at heart! I start off every morning with a big mug of coffee, my bible study, and then a great book. Shooting by this fabulous bookshelf was one of my favorite locations to date!

Collegiate Style

Although it has been a few years since I graduated from my beloved University of Florida (GO GATORS) I continue to have a soft spot for preppy, collegiate style. When I was in college the dress code was more often than not VS Pink Sweatpants and a Gators t-shirt, but oh what I wouldn't give to go back now and attend classes with a popped collar and argyle vest!

Somedays I still like to pretend I am 21 and trotting off to class (rather than almost 26 and trotting off to the office)! To me this outfit is the quintessential "collegiate chic" and it is sure fun to wear it and reminisce about the good 'ol days.

Organize Me Monday: Start 2014 With a Plan(ner)

Y'all I am so excited to talk to you about something near and dear to my heart... my planner! Since we are all beginning an exciting new year (hello 2014!) I thought it was the perfect time to share with you how I organize my planner, and maybe give you a few tips for organizing yours.

First things first... with all the commitments I have on my plate I devised a color-coding system for myself so when I looked at my monthly and weekly overviews I could see instantly where my commitments were falling.

{Hint: I made my color-codes related to what they were for... Green is the color of money, hence why everything associated with Junior League fundraisers is highlighted in green. And, "pink for personal" & "blue for board" kind-of rhymed and helped me remember my own system!}

Fab-Find Friday: The Perfect Denim Jacket + Save the Date

I've always had a "thing" for denim jackets- I think it's that southern girl in me! Even as a young girl I can remember adoring the way they pull an outfit together. However (and I think we all know this from experience) denim jackets are not always the most comfortable. Far too many of them are stiff and constricting - I've tried on some where my arms can't reach over my head!

Well all these concerns flew out the window when I found this gem of a denim jacket! I was volunteering at the Junior League of St Petersburg signature fundraiser last year, the "Whale of a Sale" when I stumbled upon this donated treasure for sale- a brand new (with tags), never worn White House Black Market Jacket! I was skeptical about trying it on, having had so many poor fitting jackets before, but I finally slipped it on and it was like magic! So comfortable, moveable, flexible, and an adorable lil ruffle on the bottom to boot! This jacket is the perfect layering piece all year long!

Pattern Play

Friends, if you haven't figured it out yet you will learn very quickly that I have a huge style crush on the  Tracy Negoshian brand! I own a ton of their easy, breezy dresses and wear one almost once a week. Her fabrics are so comfortable and the cuts are flattering on literally every body shape- she can do no wrong in my book!

It's no surprise that when starting off a brand new year I would want to start it in TN! I absolutely adore this tunic dress- I can wear it to work, to cocktails, and for running errands on the way home. I can't say that about a lot of pieces in my wardrobe, so friends run (don't walk) to TracyNegoshian.com and check her out for yourself- you will not regret purchasing one of these fabulous dresses for yourself in 2014!

2014: I'm Coming for 'Ya!

Looking back on 2013, I am amazed at all that I have been through, accomplished, loved, lost, and recovered- who knew that 12 little months could change everything?

you are lucky.

2013 was a life changing year, but when I review it all in retrospect I can see how clearly the Lord is shaping me and shaping my future. He has put the most incredible love and support in my life, with friends and family who would do anything for me (and have) and He has worked in my heart every day this year to soften it, mold it, and turn it solely towards Him.

I am facing 2014 with a renewed sense of passion and purpose to live a life of LOVE- because that is what it's all about!

Psalm 27:13-14

I am not the biggest fan of New Year's Resolutions, because as much as I love to plan, life just changes so darn much in a year! What I do believe in, however, is the everlasting goodness of our Father, the love of our families, and the sweet spirit of our friends. I want to remember every day this year that the Lord is faithful, He is good, and His timing trumps mine- every time!

Friends, I pray that your 2014 is filled with faith, love, and laughter; I can't wait to share my journey with you along the way!
